"Gifts" of Darkness

“Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this too, was a gift.”
Mary Oliver

This is often a challenging pill to swallow — learning that life is all about receiving both gifts of light and darkness. Spirit Realm knows this to be absolute truth. Nothing is given to us without of LOVE. All things that happen “for us” are gifts. Gifts of growth, gifts of teaching, gifts to help us springboard to the next phase in life. Gifts that make us so uncomfortable we finally move, end dead-end relationships or even just quit habits that are no longer serving our highest good.

Yes, it might seem like I’m overstretching to say that the death of a partner, a car accident, a loss of income or even Covid-19 are nicely wrapped in gift paper and a pretty bow ready to gift us! (The gift wrapping and pretty bow may be a big stretch). However, they all serve as a gift to us if we can look at “the growth” as a gift.

When I went through my 3rd divorce (YES 3 MARRIAGES)!! I was definitely not in a place to feel like marriage was a gift. In fact I decided it was “toxic” and an “institution” for people that just didn’t want to grow or were too afraid to be on their own AND I decided being filled with grief and heartache was not a gift in the least! It was torture to being human. I felt my trying to find love was way to painful. This gift of darkness helped me to find myself. To love me first.

After seven years, my heart healed and I was able to look back at that time feeling proud of myself for getting through it! But not only did I grow through it, I picked up some very useful tools along the way to put in my “life tool belt”. I became more confident in asking for what I needed. I learned how resourceful I was when it came to finances and doing things around the house. I developed a strong parent/child relationship with my daughter because we needed to be a team. I even realized I could offer my talents in exchange for things that I needed to pay for at that time in my life! (I taught dance classes at a local dance school in exchange for lessons for my daughter.) You just never know when your past teachings will come in handy! Nothing is waisted! But more importantly, I learned how to set healthier boundaries and to love myself.

So darkness is still a gift. It is an opportunity for us to go within and seek the light within ourselves and learn that we are the ones that we have been looking for. Dark gifts give us a chance to decide how resilient we truly are. They give us the ability to dive in the part of our SOUL that requires us to connect to Divine and ask for guidance, support and sometimes to even just be held until we can manage to move forward. In those moments we learn to trust ourselves, others and Divine Life Source once again.

So the purpose of the gifts of Darkness are to help us focus our attention upon the Light where our spirit-self dwells. Darkness is always an invitation to go within as that is where the Light resides. Do not oppose it but see it as the gift it indeed is.

You have been given the gift of choice ~ choose wisely as these are the days in which you are sowing your garden for harvest in future incarnations.

So much love and growth to you in the Winter Darkness. Be gentle with your beautiful selves.
